The TRMG Sponsorship Programme
TRMG maintains an active sponsorship programme for deserving students specializing in telecom and IT related subjects, preferably with a background in revenue risk management, or the ability to demonstrate a strong interest in this topic.
2007
We were delighted to sponsor a Masters student at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, Madeleine Bihina Bella for the entire duration of her programme. Madeleine wrote her thesis on the use of Self Organizing Map (SOM) technology in pattern detection for fraud management within telecom data and she graduated cum laude on 05 September, 2007. Madeleine has since been recruited by Atos Origin and she was selected as an IT security specialist for the 2008 Olympic Games in China.

2008
In 2008 TRMG opted to sponsor a different kind of worthy cause. The Hearts of Gold Hospice (http://www.hoghospice.org/v4/) in Lagos Nigeria cares for more than thirty abandoned children, most of them suffering from serious afflictions ranging from Cerebral Palsy to HIV. We found this amazing place and its truly inspirational founder, Mrs Adedoyin, while we were engaged on a long-term project in Lagos. Most of the children we met need lifetime care and we encourage all of our visitors to follow the link to the Hearts of Gold site for more information. TRMG will be contributing three children’s wheelchairs to the Hospice during Spring 2009 but much more help is needed. If you are interested in joining this effort, but would prefer to do so through TRMG, please email us at info@trmg.org
2009
During 2009 we delivered three children’s wheelchairs to the Hearts of Gold Hospice for disabled children in Lagos, along with some toys. We have also facilitated a very successful fund-raising effort to pay for urgent life-saving surgery for four of the children living at the Hospice. This drive has now raised more than $20,000 and a new donor is in the process of providing an additional $10,000 towards the same cause. Three of these children (Grace, Oyin and Elizabeth) are suffering from Hydrocephalus, or “water head”, a severe swelling of the head caused by an accumulation of fluid inside the skull which is fatal if not corrected. The other child has an abdominal growth which may be cancerous. Grace and Elizabeth have already had successful surgery in Dubai. We hope to send Oyin on the next trip and we’ll update you on his progress here over the coming months.
We are also now sponsoring a four year old boy named Victor Muiruri who is attending the Summit School in Kenya, about an hour outside Nairobi. Victor is an orphan and his relatives are unable to fund his education, which costs just over $50 per month. We have made a commitment to cover this cost through to his graduation at the age of 18, and we hope to be able to post regular updates here on Victor’s progress through his formative years.
